PURPOSE:To obtain a display having a bright screen and high display quality by disposing a transparent substrate formed with microlenses and a thin type transparent substrate in such a manner that these substrates are adjacent to each other on the microlens surface sides of the transparent substrates. CONSTITUTION:Thin-film transistors 8 and transparent electrodes 7 consisting of ITO constituting picture elements are formed on the substrate substrate 6. The transparent substrates 2, 6 are fixed by an adhesive and a liquid crystal material 9 is injected and packed into the spacing therebetween. A convex lens array 3 is so determined in the radius of curvature as to focus at the positions of the transparent electrodes 4 constituting the picture elements. Incident light 10 past the array 3 is condensed to the electrodes which are apertures and thereafter, the light transmits the electrodes 7 and the substrate 6. Almost all the light passes the electrodes 4 without being shielded by shielding bodies 5 and improves the screen brightness when the light 10 is made incident in parallel in the case of a liquid crystal valve contg. this optical element. The opening rate of the picture element is, therefore, substantially increased and the display having the bright screen and the high display quality is obtd. |
