PURPOSE:To achieve a quick movement of an optical pickup by detecting whether rotation frequency of an optical disc is in an area near a resonance frequency of the optical pickup or not. CONSTITUTION:Upon the entry of an access mode, a system controller 6 examines whether the current position of an optical pickup (PU)5 is within a specified area using information from a position information detecting circuit 14 to judge whether the rotation frequency of a disc 3 is in an area near a resonance frequency of the PU5 or not. When it is in the area, the controller performs a track jump control of the PU5 with a focus tracking servo circuit 13 in operation. Otherwise, the controller stops the circuit 13 and performs an access control to move the PU5 fast with a feed motor drive circuit 12. Based on positional information of the circuit 14, this access control operation is repeated if the current position of the PU5 does not reach a desired track position and the access control ends when it reaches the desired track position. This enables the moving of the PU5 to the desired track position stably and quickly.
