PURPOSE:To obtain a metal carrier excellent in durability, by a method wherein a honeycomb body formed by superposing a flat plate and a corrugated plate one upon another to wind the same is inserted in an outer cylinder and the outer cylinder is subjected to contraction processing and the peaks of the corrugated plate are partially adjusted to be patterned. CONSTITUTION:A flat plate 1 and a corrugated plate 2 are continuously wound by a taking-up motor 3 while superposed one upon another. At this time, when rearward tension is applied to the surface and rear of the flat plate 1 at the rear thereof by means such as wts. 5, the honeycomb body 4 is tightly wound and the flat plate strongly comes into close contact with the ridge parts of the corrugated plate 2. When the honeycomb body 4 is received in an outer cylinder thereafter, the outer cylinder 1 is contracted so that the diameter thereof becomes smaller than the outer diameter of the honeycomb body 4 to bring the flat plate 1 and the ridge parts of the corrugated plate 2 to a more close contact state. By this method, close adhesion is performed by a selection pattern and diffusion bonding is made certain and a honeycomb structure having high durability is obtained.
