PURPOSE:To improve the operability by providing a device with a two-dimensional face contact type scanner and constituting the device like a plate and inputting an image with the device on an object to perform recognition processing and translation processing. CONSTITUTION:The device is placed on the object on which words or sentences to be translated are recorded, and the image is inputted by a plane contact scanner 10. The inputted image is temporarily stored in a memory 15, and images of characters, words, sentences, or the like are segmented from the stored image, and each segmented image is collated with a preliminarily stored dictionary and is recognized by a recognizing part 18. The recognition result is translated to another language by a translating part 20, and the translation result is displayed on a display device 12 and is reported to an operator. Thus, it is unnecessary to input a character string as the translation object from a keyboard 22 or the like, and the operability is improved. |
