PURPOSE:To reduce fluctuation of a driving voltage by providing a carrier catching layer provided with a catching center, on an area where carrier is injected from an electrode. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with waveguides 36 and 38 provided on a dielectric electrode 34, and electrodes 40 and 42 for forming an electric field for an action control with reference to the waveguides 36 and 38, and the carrier catching layer 44 provided with the catching center (trap) is provided on the area where the carrier is injected from the electrode 40. Then, the injected carrier distribution area is mainly positioned on the surface layer of the carrier capture layer, so that the degree how the electric field formed by the captured carrier is weighted to the electric field to be formed in order to control the action can be reduced. Thus, the fluctuation of the driving voltage by the carrier can be reduced in the waveguide type optical device. |
