The present invention relates to a transfer device connecting a motive power unit (1) of a motor vehicle to a longitudinal transmission shaft driving the rear wheels. The device is characterised in that the pinion (11) in mesh with the gear (12) of the motive power unit, and the bevel gear (13) are situated on either side of a bearing (17) for supporting the intermediate shaft (10) and the annular bevel gear (14) is mounted to rotate freely on a length of an output shaft (15) mechanically coupled to the longitudinal transmission shaft.
