PURPOSE:To obtain the reproduced picture of high picture quality free from the staining by judging whether a photograph picture is contained in an object picture or not by pre-scanning, and reproducing an area where the object picture is not dots at the time of normal scanning and in addition, density is low by a white signal in the case that the photograph picture is not contained. CONSTITUTION:It is judged whether the photograph picture is contained in an input picture or not by a pre-scanning block. In the case that the dot picture of a small area is detected at the time of the pre-scanning, an original is recognized by deciding it to be due to erroneous separation. At the time of the normal scanning, the input picture is supplied to a dot separating part 4, an edge separating part 5, and a white ground deciding part 6 in parallel, and in the dot separating part 4, the dot is separated according to whether the density is peak-shaped or not. In the white ground deciding part 6, a true white ground part and the highlight part of the photograph picture are decided to be the white ground, and the highlight part of the dot picture is decided to be a non- white ground because there is a small dot in the original. |
