[Also-in Division H1] A device for punching material DS, such as paper tape, by means of spark discharges comprises a matrix M having apertures formed in different series which each include a different combination of apertures the matrix being arranged to be displaced parallel to.the material in a direction in which any of the aperture combinations can be disposed to a position opposite a space in which the spark is discharged. The spark discharge device includes electrodes E1, E2 and a common electrode EO mounted on an insulator I and capacitors C1, C2 charged from a supply voltage VB fed via charging diodes X1, X2, X3 and X4. In operation, the matrix is rotated in order to bring the selected series of holes oppositethe discharge space (i.e. the space between the material DS and the face of the insulator I) and then either the capacitor Cl or C2 discharged to perforate the material. In a modification only one common capacitor (C, Fig. 3) and one charging diode (X) are required for the two discharging circuits. The punched chads are drawn away from the matrix by means of an air stream.</p> |
