The machine exhibits, on each side, twin front wheels 3 on the drive drum of which is mounted a hoop. On this hoop is mounted the fixed part 14 of an arm of variable length, the sliding movable part of which 15 carries the axle of twin tensioning wheels 17 for a caterpillar track 24 running over the wheels 3 and 17. A suspension arm 19 interacts with a balljoint 23 of the arm part 14, and is articulated to a support 18 fixed to the chassis 1 of the machine. A thrust cylinder 21 located between the support 18 and the suspension arm 19 acts to provide the suspension of the tension wheels 17. The device is incorporated into the twin wheels 3 and is fixed as a single element to the driving axle of the machine. The invention applies to high-power machinery such as combine harvesters, silo loaders, harvesting machines and heavy tractors. <IMAGE>
