<p>A novel interactive telephone communication system (10) and method are provided which allow a hearing-impaired person, using a TDD (22), to send and receive information over a conventional two-way telephone subscriber network (30) without communicating directly with another person. The hearing-impaired person communicates over the subscriber network (30) with a TDD (22) coupled directly or indirectly to the network (30). The automated processing system (10) includes a receiving and transmitting circuit (32) coupled to the network (30) to receive communication signals from the hearing-impaired person and processor (34) for processing a received communication signal according to a predefined control matrix. The processor (34) includes a retrieval application software for selectively retrieving one of a plurality of separately addressed TDD (22) displayable messages stored in an associated computer database (36). Receiving and transmitting circuit (32) also provide for sending a retrieved TDD (22) displayable message to the hearing-impaired person's TDD (22) for display.</p> |
