The electro optical LCD display has an LC layer sandwiched between 2 electrode plates, contg. a nematic phase and tightly packed solid particles. The quotient of the vol. displaced by the solid particles and the relative solid vol. of the solid particles lies between 0.005 and 0.15. The cell electrodes are supplied with an AC voltage with a frequency below the crossover frequency, to bring the LC into a transparent state. An AC voltage with a frequency above the crossover frequency is supplied by a second voltage source, to bring the LC into a less transparent state. ADVANTAGE - Simple display for bistable images.
