Existing methods of computing the layout of tanks for rinsing a throughout of workpieces to attain a given small concentration do not fully exploir the possibilities for optimising variables such as floor area, production time, water consumption etc. A more efficient layout can be achieved by utilizing building height or space under the finishing plant floor. - In a typical proposed system a number of intermediate tanks is replaced by one tank (2) which is extended to occupy a pit dug in the floor under the tank installation (1, 2, 3). Alternatively, if the installation is on an upper floor, the intermediate tank can be of the same section as the other tanks but extended downwards through the floors.
