In X-ray conversion into blue and/or green light using a phosphor with an emission spectrum contg. main intensity lines below 478 nm. and/or between 530 and 570 nm., the novelty is that the phosphor has the formula (Gd(1-w-x)Ln(w) A(x))(8-y)(Ga(1-z) Al(z))(y)O12 Ln = Y and/or Lu A = rare earth element(s) other than Gd and Lu w = 0 to less than 1.0 x = 0-0.12 (exclusive) y = 4.88-5.20 (exclusive) z = either 0-0.66 (exclusive), when w = 0 to less than 0.5, or 0-0.8 (exclusive), when w = 0.5 to less than 1.0.
