The rotary slide has only a small part in the cylinder head, and involves one in ball zone form for the inlet and one for exhaust located around the cylinder. The connecting rod from the centre of the piston passes between both rotary slides to the crankshaft. With this arrangement, one sixth of the periphery of the slide is in the cylinder head and in the most loaded zone. Outside this area, the slide can be well cooled. The slide rotates with half the speed of the crankshaft, and the part of it subjected to the highest temp. can be particularly protected, e.g. with ceramic or other high temp.-resistant material. It can be driven direct from the crankshaft or via a control shaft with toothing, chain or toothed belt. USE - As a rotary slide for an internal combustion engine.
