PURPOSE:To obtain the device which is easily formed thinner and portable and is easily provided with the higher brightness and the process for producing this device by using an interference filter which is multilayered films formed by laminating plural layers varying in refractive index and forming at least one among these films of a film which can be switched to a scattering mode and a transmission mode. CONSTITUTION:The low-refractive index film 403 consisting of a high-polymer dispersion type liquid crystal hardly scatters light and allows the transmission of the light when a voltage is impressed between a conductive film 401 and a transparent conductive film 405. The light is also hardly scattered and is transmitted in the composite films contg. the transparent film which is the low-refractive index film 406. The liquid crystal is randomly arranged and the light is scattered in the film 403 when the voltage is not impressed. A difference arises between the liquid crystal and the transparent film 406 and, therefore, the light is scattered in this film. The degree of the scattering of the light in the high-polymer dispersion type liquid crystal or the composite film contg. this liquid crystal and the transparent film having the same refractive index as the refractive index of this liquid crystal and having ruggedness on the surface can be continuously controlled by the magnitude of the voltage impressed between the film 401 and the film 405 in such a manner and, therefore, the reflectivity in the specific wavelength band of the display element can be continuously controlled. Since the presence or absence of the development of interference reflection colors is controllable, there is no need for polarizing plates and moreover, the loss of the light is lessened and, therefore, the display device having the high brightness is obtd. |
