<p>The invention concerns the use in automatic production facilities, in for instance the automobile industry, of a process, which can itself be automated, for assessing the quality of welds. The process calls for the following operations. Immediately (time t0) on making the weld and at least at one additional time (t1), the thermo-electric voltages (U) induced between the electrodes (3, 4) and the parts (1, 2) being welded together are measured. These measurement give information on the temperatures (T0 and T1 respectively) at the weld point (5). If the value of the expression T0.(t1-t0)/T0-T1 lies below a threshold determined previously by experiment, the weld must be considered to be insufficiently strong (a so-called cold shot). The invention also concerns a suitable device for carrying out the process.</p> |
