PURPOSE:To attain personal identification with excellent operability and high reliability by previously storing registered fingerprints in respective sorted files in each fingerprint sorting category, accessing one of the files by using an identification(ID) code consisting of the small number of digits in order to identify each file and collating coincidence between a fingerprint registered in the access file and an input fingerprint. CONSTITUTION:An image input control part 12 checks the time-sequential density change of plural picture elements on prescribed positions in an inputted image on occasion, detects the setting of a fingerprint, and when the density value of the picture elements exceeds a threshold, a fingerprint image is automatically sampled. The obtained two-dimensional quantized image is stored in an image memory 13. A collating processing part 18 successively reads out minutial lists M1 to Mn stored in a file accessed by the inputted ID number inputted from an input part 20 and stores the read lists in a working memory 17 to collate coincidence with the sampled fingerprint image stored in the memory 13. Thus, personal identification can be quickly and highly reliably executed by means of fingerprints based upon code information consisting of the small number of digits. |
