SAFETY APPARATUS IN PRESS

The safety device for the slide of a press includes an infrared concentrating and detecting system for sensing far infrared radiation and a filter and amplifier operating in a specified range of wavelengths peculiar to the human body. The concentrator collects the radiation from the dangerous area alpha and when the signal from the detector rises above a predetermined level power is applied to a solenoid which stops the slide. The device has an adjustable screening plate (INP) to reduce the effect of noise emanating from outside the dangerous area.
