The invention relates to a porous fireproof rinsing element used for blowing gases through the fireproof casing in metallurgical melting vessels. The proposal is for a rinsing element of synthetic sinter magnesia and a binder having as the binder a combination of a) sulphite spent lye and b) tubular alumina or silica gel and/or zirconium. The sinter magnesia used has a grain structure of > 0 to 0.5 mm at 15 to 40 mass % and 0.5 to 10 mm at 60 to 85 mass %. This provides a rinsing element with high gas transmissivity, good resistance to thermal shocks and relatively high mechanical strength.
