In a rectified DC source circuit is an element (21) which can be rapidly switched off. The element is in series with an energy storage unit (19) and is provided with further switch elements (22,34) which when given a control command switch in a parallel current circuit (23,19,24) which releases the energy stored in unit (19,20). USE/ADVANTAGE - In electron beam guns, i.v.t.'s, sputter cathodes and high voltage filter plant, where short circuiting can be a problem. The open circuits (23,24) allow the energy in the capacitors (20,19) to be released when a short circuit takes place without harming the equipment.
