PURPOSE:To provide the title protective material having the woundcuring effect inherent in chitin as well as infection-preventive and bactericidal effects, consisting of iodine-contg. chitin. CONSTITUTION:The objective protective material consisting of chitin <50% in deacetylation degree containing ca.1-30wt.% of iodine. For iodine incorporation, (1) chitin powder, chitin formed product (e.g. textile, film, sponge) or a wound covering protective material made from chitin (e.g. nonwoven fabric) is treated with an iodine ion-contg. aqueous solution; or (2) a chitin dope is admixed with iodine followed by forming. The present antifungal material can be used as a covering protective material for bed sore with high infective frequency or for dental applications, as a coating material for bactericidal gauzes and medical materials, etc., and also, besides the purpose for medical care, can be used as a disinfectant for kitchens and bathtubs or agricultural/ horticultural disinfectant, and for antifungal sheets, antifungal socks, etc. |
