Compsns. for disinfecting contact lenses comprise a peroxide (I), a peroxidase (II) and an electron donor (III). The compsns. are stored in a non-reactive state such that the bactericidal combination of (I)-(III) is inactive. The compsns. are stored in dry form, e.g. as a powder or pill, which is dissolved in H2O or saline soln. to give concns. of 0.01-100 mM (III), 0.001-1 mM (I) and 0.00001-1 mg/ml (II). Pref. (I) is H2O2, Na perborate, methyl peroxides or ethyl peroxide. (II) is horseradish peroxidase (HRP). (III) is an iodide salt, tyrosine, phenylalanine, benzoic acid, dehydrophenylalanine or vanillan.
