Electrochemical cell useful as gas cell

Electrochemical cells comprise a first electrically conducting structure (2) and a second electrically conducting structure (4) sepd. from each other by an insulating packing (6) which form the housing contg. a chemically active material (8) in combination with an electrolyte as well as a gas diffusion electrode (10), where the first structure of the housing has at least one opening (28) through which gas may be fed in or out. The cell contains a sealing film (26) for the gas placed inside the housing between the gas diffusion electrode and the opening. The sealing film (26) pref. comprises at least one metal film, and it is pref. arranged directly on the inner side of the first structure (2). At least the part of the metal film against the housing opening is coated with a layer protecting the metal against corrosion. The film breaks open under a pressure difference across its sides above 10 bar.
