<p>A process is disclosed for the preparation of sigma -isopropoxy-phenol by reaction of pyrocatechol with an isopropyl halide in a reaction medium constituted by one or more inert organic solvents, in the presence of a solid inorganic base, and of a polyether, e.g., polyethylene-glycol, crown ether, a cryptant, as a solid-liquid phase transfer catalyst. The reaction yields the desired monoether with a high conversion and an excellent selectivity.</p> |
