<p>This invention relates to a fire retardant compound comprising at least one fibrous layer comprising a network of fibers (12) such as high strength polyethylene or aramid fibers in a matrix such as a blend of a vinyl ester and a polyurethane, and a fire retardant layer (14) comprised of a particulate fire retardant material which decompose and heating to a gaseous material such as magnesium hydroxide dispersed in a matrix comprised of a relatively high char yield resin such as a cured phenolic cyanate resin.</p> |
