In the spinner for mfg. effect yarns, esp. ring spinners, hollow spindle or open-end spinners, at least the drive for each drawing cylinder (24) is mechanically sepd. from the main drive (12). The electromotor (29) for the drawing cylinders (24) can be directly controlled with the basic speed and also with the variations in speed according to the program. The program control for the electromotor (29) has three control systems: a control (35) for the basic speed electronically linked to the main drive; a control (36) to program the yarn effect designs; and a control (37) with a program to give the flame designs through the machine and the material. Pref. the drawing cylinders (24, 28) are directly flanged to their drive motors (29, 22) through reduction gearings (23). For the operating speed control (35), an incremental transmitter (13) with a pulse converter is linked by a signal line (14) either directly to the main control (15) for the electromotor (29) or indirectly to the program control. The effect design control (36) has a microprocessor with at least a readable memory for at least one yarn design program carrying data for thickness, flame strength and length, nominal flame intervals, accelerations and decelerations in the basic speed, and the like. The effect control (36) uses additional actual value parameters from the operation of the spinner, such as the actual position of the heart drive (120) of the ring spinner or spinning voltage values from it. ADVANTAGE - The appts. is a compact assembly, with fine adjustment to give a variety of controlled yarn effect designs as the yarn is spun, with rapid and simple changes from one yarn pattern to another.
