PURPOSE:To reduce damage to the internal surface of a blood vessel when a balloon for a catheter folded passes through the blood vessel by setting a ratio of a thickness of a cylindrical part of the balloon to that of a roughly intermediate part of the tapered part at a specified value to minimize the hardness of wrinkles, angularity and bulkiness attributed to the tapered part when the balloon is folded. CONSTITUTION:A balloon 1 for a catheter had a cylindrical part 2 with an inner diameter thereof almost even, tapered parts 3a and 3b provided respectively before and after the cylindrical part 2 and catheter joints 4a and 4b provided before and after the tapered parts 3a and 3b and made of a high polymer. A ratio of the thickness of the cylindrical part 2 to that of a roughly intermediate part of the tapered part 3a is in a relation of B/A<=1.2. As the thickness of the tapered part 3a is small with the relation of B/A<=1.2, bulkiness and angularity are limited when the tapered part of the balloon is folded. This facilitates the passage of the balloon through a constricted part and can further minimize damage to the internal surface of a blood vessel when it contacts the internal surface thereof. |
