1,170,548. Rotary drum refuse furnace. FELLNER & ZIEGLER G.m.b.H. 17 Aug., 1967 [18 Aug., 1966], No. 37955/67. Heading F4B. A refuse consuming furnace comprises a fire clay casing 1 containing a rotatable perforated part spherical drum 2 having at one end a charging and discharging aperture 5, and at the other end being connected to a shaft 7 rotated by an electric motor 14. An air supply housing 17 with nozzles 19 is situated below the drum, and a refuse ignition burner 20 fires into it. Refuse is fed down tube 22 into the drum, combustion gases produced passing out through chimney 23 or a cyclone separator (not shown) after being burnt with additional air or fuel if required. The drum 2 is tilted for charging or discharging about an axis parallel to the plane of discharge aperture 5, by a threaded spindle and nut mechanism 9a, 15 actuated through hand wheel 16. Movement of the nut 9a on the spindle 15 causes movement of a yoke 8 of frame 9 to which the nut is attached. The side arms of frame 9 are journalled in bearings on the exterior side walls of the furnace (Fig. 2) to allow tilting of the yoke and consequently the shaft 7 and drum 2. |
