PURPOSE:To detect in advance and prevent abnormal reactions due to the shortage of an oxidizer by measuring the voltage of one or plural cells located at the upper portion of a multilayer fuel cell, and stopping operation of the fuel cell when the voltage measured is lowered to below a set value. CONSTITUTION:An oxidizer and a fuel are supplied to a cell main body 1 via feed and discharge lines 2,3 and power is supplied from an electricity output wire 5 to a load 6. If the amount of oxidizer gas flow for the load is decreased because of the nonmatching operation of a power system, etc., and the oxygen utilization factor of the main body 1 is heightened, a voltage measuring device 7 detects the voltage drop of each of plural cells including those located at the uppermost portion or upper one third of the main body 1 and outputs it to a controller and the controller compares the output value with a set value and stops operation of the system when needed. Abnormal reactions due to the shortage of the oxidizer are thus detected in advance and prevented using a simple device. |
