The black matrix for color cathode ray tube is manufactured by (A) washing panel with water, (B) washing panel with sodium hydroxide solution to remove fluorescent organic film remaining inside the panel, (C) washing panel with dilute nitric acid, and (D) finally washing panel with fluoric acid, followed by pure water washing and drying. The washing with fluoric acid can be done two times, while the washing with dilute nitric acid is conducted between the first and second washing with fluoric acid. By a series of above washing processes uniformly doped film on the panel inside canb be obtained without blurring of graphite.
