A cylinder lock and key combination has a lock housing 2, a cylinder core 3 and a key 4. Adjoining the bore 5 provided in the cylinder housing 2 for the cylinder core 3 there is a groove 6 which receives a resilient catch element 7 with a shoulder 7a. The catch element can be axially displaced counter to the action of a spring 8 by engagement of a carrier member 4c located on the back of the key. The catch element 7 can be displaced to an active position in which the shoulder 7a cooperates with a recessed groove formation 15 on the peripheral surface of the cylinder core 3. The arrangement is such that the cylinder core, after turning a certain predetermined angle (which can vary within wide limits), adopts a rear catch position in which the core cannot turn back in the opposite direction. The rear catch position can be released by means of a complete rotary movement and renewed engagement of the key. <IMAGE> |
