1,187,989. Tape cassette machines. MUNTZ STEREO PAK Inc. 16 June, 1967 [27 June, 1966], No. 27878/67. Heading G5R. A magnetic tape cassette machine includes a pinch roller 20 operable to be raised from a retracted position either to urge a pinch roller 104 in a first form of cassette into driving engagement with a capstan 16 or to enter a second form of cassette and engage the tape with the capstan. An inserted cassette engages a rod 88 to pivot lever 86 and thereby release catch 38 allowing slide 24 to move outwardly under spring force 36 and thereby rotate crank 34 carrying the roller 20 which has a washer 54 at one side to prevent damage when it engages a recess 101 in the first form of cassette. Depressing button 80 retracts pinch roller 20, re-engages catch 38 and ejects the cassette via rod 88. The cassettes, which contain endless tape and which may be of different sizes, are guided along a rail (18, Figs. 1, 2, not shown) and held by engagement with tongues 114, 116, Fig. 4.
