PURPOSE:To control light quantity automatically by controlling a timing of laser beam quantity control means such that a horizontal scanning is performed in an area excepting the maximum recordable area and a vertical scanning is performed in an area excepting image security areas at front and rear ends in a record medium. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam quantity control means C controls a laser beam source A so as to obtain a predetermined beam output level based on an output of a laser beam detecting means B. A timing control means D controls a timing of the laser beam quantity control means C such that a horizontal scanning is performed in an area excepting the maximum recordable area and a vertical scanning is performed in an area excepting image security areas at front and rear ends in a record medium. The laser beam quantity control means C comprises a beam output level discriminating means E for discriminating a beam output level above the fixed beam output level which can keep the minimum record quality and a beam output level deciding means F for deciding a beam output level based on the result of the discrimination. When the output of the laser beam quantity detecting means B does not reach the predetermined beam output level, a new beam output level is set. |
