The invention relates to a device for tearing up pillars, comprising a means for gripping the pillar in the vicinity of the base thereof, and lifting means making it possible to exert a tearing-up force in a substantially vertical direction. According to the invention, it comprises a support structure (100) equipped with a winch (103) and a bracket (106) on which is mounted a differential pulley block (105) which is connected to a traction cable (104) on the said pulley and to a tie piece (107) surrounding the pillar (P) to be torn up. The support structure (100) is additionally equipped with a retractable strut (108) in the area of the bracket (106) for taking up the vertical stresses during the tearing-up of a pillar (P), and a vertical guidance clamp (109) maintaining the vertical latitude of the said pillar when the latter is lifted as it is being torn up.
