The invention relates to a device for ultrasonic detection of defects present in metal tubes, and in particular defects oriented obliquely with respect to the axis of the tube. The device includes means for helically moving the tube (1) with respect to detection means including at least one group of two transducers (2, 3) arranged side by side, substantially along the axis of advance of the tube (X3). Of these two transducers (2, 3), one is a transmitter/receiver (2), and its transmission is directed towards the tube, the other (3) being simply a receiver. The processing means of the two transducers (4) make it possible to measure the amplitudes of the echo signals received by each of the transducers of the group (2, 3) and also, if necessary, to add these echo signals.
