PURPOSE:To obtain an electric double-layer capacitor which is less in capacitance deterioration and long in service life by using such activated carbon that the ratio of the difference between the titration value of the activated carbon obtained when sodium carbonate is used as a neutralizing testing agent and that obtained when sodium hydrogencarbonate is used to the weight of the activated carbon is equal to or lager than a specific value. CONSTITUTION:In case the time when the capacitance deterioration exceeds 50% is regarded as the end of the service life of this electric double-layer capacitor, a capacitor having a surface functional group quantity II of >=0.195meq/g has a service life of 10 or more years, but a capacitor having a large total acidic group quantity with a smaller surface functional group quantity II can have a service life of 3 or less years. Therefore, this capacitor uses such activated carbon that the ratio of the difference between the titration value obtained when sodium carbonate is used as a neutralizing testing agent and that obtained when sodium hydrogencarbonate is used to the weight of the activated carbon is >=0.196meq/g is used. |
