Therapeutic compositions for the treatment of disturbances of the normal hormonal equilibrium, for oral administration, comprise a medicament nucleus containing a sulpho-conjugated neutral steroid (wherein the steroid moiety is a C 21 , C 19 or C 18 steroid) coated with a layer which is resistant to gastric juice but which is capable of dissolution in the intestines. The steroid comprises the sulphates (acidic and mixed salts with ammonium, Na, K and Ca) and sulphatides (esters of acidic sulphates wherein the sulpho group is esterified with a non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable monovalent or polyvalent alcohol e.g. glycerine, palmityl or stearyl alcohol) of non- phenolic steroids e.g. pregnenolone, desoxycorticosterone, progesterone, dehydro-epi-androsterone, testosterone and 19-nortestosterone. The coating may be composed of any conventional material e.g. keratin, shellac, colophony, cellulose acetate phthalate, cellulose acetate succinate, copolymers of styrene and maleic acid anhydride, copolymers of butyl partial ester of maleic acid with styrene and acrylic acid, copolymers of maleic acid anhydride and vinyl methyl ether and of styrene and methacrylic acid. The example relates to a dragee nucleus containing sodium dehydro-epi-androsterone sulphate coated with cellulose acetate phthalate.
