Synthetic materials e.g. cellulose acetate, polyamides, linear polyesters which may be mixed with cotton or wool are dyed by a) applying to a support an ink comprising a disperse dye which vapourises at 160-220‹C and an organic solvent substantially free of water (i.e. 15% or less) and removing the solvent medium to leave a support printed with dyestuff b) effecting oontact between the support and the textile to be dyed, c) heating said support and textile whilst in contact to a temperature above the vaporisation temperature of the dyestuff d) maintaining the heat to permit vaporisation of the dye and penetration thereof into the textile material, e) terminating the heating and separating the support and textile. Multi colours are obtained by printing the support with several dyes, the support may be paper, cellophane film or aluminium foil.
