On both sides of the engine cylinders (2,3) extend longitudinally cooling water manifolds (4,5). The two manifolds are joined to one another at least at the face-side ends of the cylinder block. At the tape the manifolds are closed by a closed plate, the upper side of which acts as a locating surface for a cylinder head. In the bridge (9) connecting the cylinders (2,3) a connecting channel (10) is provided running crossways to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder block in the direction of the cooling water manifolds. Starting from the upper side of the one manifold (4), the connecting channel runs upwards, passing through the bridge (9), issuing in an outlet aperture (11) within the locating surface for the cylinder head. USE - For water-cooled internal combustion engines, to cool the bridges between cylinders.
