New colour-stable modification of the 3-phenylazo-benzisothiazole dye of formula (I) haslattice plane spacings (d, in angstroms) for the 5 strongest lines at 3.13- 3.36; 4.85; 9.26 and 13.94 (relative intensity 98; 89; 82; 100 and 98). The alpha-modification of (I) (see EP-167913) with lines at 3.41; 3.49; 3.93 and 4.06 (relative intensities 100,90, 41 and 48) or the beta-modification, with lines at 3.43, 3.80, 3.96, 5.09 and 6.48 (relative intensities 100, 30, 38, 29 and 31) is tempered in the presence of an anionic dispersant and a nonionic emulsifier. Partic. treatment is carried out during the forming step in presence of lignin sulphonate and ethoxylated abietic acid at 80-85 deg.C for 2-4 hr. or, pref. during several passages through a bead mill with flow through time 40-60 min..
