PURPOSE:To simplify a manufacturing process and make an electrode high capacity and a long life by mixing metal cobalt powders within a range of 3-20wt.% in specific hydrogen absorbing alloy powder, and packing a mixture in an alkali-resistant metal porous plate to make an electrode. CONSTITUTION:Metal cobalt powders within a range of 3-20wt.% are mixed in hydrogen absorbing alloy powder represented in a general formula MmNi3.7 AlXMYN2 (0.3<=Al<=0.9, M: Fe, Mn, 0.1<=Fe<=0.9, 0.1<=Mn<=0.9, N: Cu, 0.1<=Cu<=0.7), and a resultant mixture is packed in an alkali-resistant metal porous plate to make an electrode. Cobalt is a transition metal having a 3d-orbit and acts as a catalyst for a hydrogen electrode, and capacity is increased and a cycle life is prolonged in an electrode, formed by mixing hydrogen absorbing alloy powder and metal cobalt powder, due to the conductivity improving action of metallic cobalt. This permits the high capacity and long life of the electrode, and the simplification of a manufacturing process. |
