The processing plant for steel sections has a receiving station, transfer station and cross conveyor which is attached on one side to the station conveyor of the receiving station and on the other side to the station conveyor of the transfer station. This cross conveyor has on the station side roller paths (7). The roller path (7) of the transfer station (3) has alignment strips (11) in the area of the tractor chain cross conveyor (8) entering the roller path so that the steel sections (S) roll over same as they enter. The roller path between the rollers (12) has rise and fall slide strips (13) which can be set at a level above and below the transport level of the rollers. The tractor chain cross-conveyors (8) which can be moved back against the transport direction of the workpiece have alignment entrainment members (14) on the tractor chains (8) and these members can be rasied into the function position and lowered into the transfer position by rise and fall lift strips (15) associated with the tractor chain conveyors (8) in the area between the rollers (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - The workpieces can be positioned with precision on the roller path of the transfer station, even at high speeds.
