Graft polymers are produced from (A) a basic polymer of 50-96 wt.% polyphenylene-ether and 4-50 wt.% of a vinylaromatic polymer as calculated in relation to the basic polymer, (b) a salt of at least one alpha,beta-unsatd. carboxylate and an at least bivalent cation provided that only one carboxyl group is attached to the C atoms of the carboxylate double bond, and (C) where necessary at least one additonal olefinic unsatd. monomer out of the group: acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylates or methacrylates derived from 1-8C alcohols, and maleic acid anhydride.
