A rod holder is used for a drill shaft (1) in a geological formation, whether or not it is used for drilling upwards or downwards. It comprises an angle iron frame (3, 4, 5, 8) in which two ground (17, 20) pulleys (16, 19) are mounted on parallel axes (22, 23), one on either side of the drill shaft (1). The axle (21) of one of the pulleys (19) is attached by means of a split pin (24) to a spring (31) loaded lever (26) which can raise or lower it to put pressure on the drill shaft (1). USE/ADVANTAGE - Holder is simplified and better suited to mining conditions.
