A vehicle external rear view mirror has a housing (1) to take the mirror, and a fixture (2) for holding the housing to the vehicle door or body. The surface (8) of the mirror housing over which air flows has adjacent uneven sections (9) to achieve a break up of the air flow. This provides for differing turbulence in the air streams, and results in reduced wind noise heard in the passenger compartment. ADVANTAGE - Avoids wind noise.
