<p>PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of an ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) exchange by allowing a common buffer monitor section to manage centralizingly the operating state of a switch buffer in existence in the ATM exchange and allowing a call processing section to select a path having a minimum quantity to be consumed. CONSTITUTION:The ATM exchange is provided with a buffer monitor section 2 and a call processing section 3, and the buffer monitor section 2 detects a data storage quantity representing the quantity to be consumed in all switch buffers in the ATM exchange 1 and a number of aborted data because a switch buffer is fully occupied. The call processing section 3 decides an optimum path and whether or not a call is to be received based on the monitor content by the buffer monitor section 2. Thus, the operating state of the switch buffers in existence in the ATM exchange 1 is managed centralizingly by the common buffer monitor section 2 and the call processing section 3 selects a path having the minimum quantity to be consumed depending on the management state by the buffer monitor section 2.</p> |
