PURPOSE:To simplify a structure and improve the opening rate of a display surface, by arranging a cathode and a display anode and an auxiliary anode in each electric discharge cell, and also providing only auxiliary anodes on the front surface base side. CONSTITUTION:Cathodes 4 and display anodes 7 covered with a dielectric layer 10 are provided on the inner surface of the back surface base 1 in parallel with each other and alternately in separation at predetermined intervals, and auxiliary anodes 8 which meet at right angles with the back surface base 1 side electrodes 4, 7, are provided on the inner surface of the front surface base 2 in parallel with each other and in separation at predetermined intervals, and a display electric discharge cell 5 is formed by arranging a cathode 4, a display anode 7 and an auxiliary anode 8 in each cell 5, and the insides of cells 5 which adjoin auxiliary anodes 8 are connected to each other by forming openings 31d at the wall portion of a sealing wall 31a that is in parallel with electrodes 4, 7 of the back surface base 1 side. Also, auxiliary electric discharge cells 4A, 8A whose exclusive purpose is to conduct 'kindling', are formed by providing cathodes 4 alone on the back surface base 1 opposite to a linear order scanning 'write' uppermost step position that is in a direction meeting at right angles with anodes 8. As a result, the improvement of a display surface opening rate and the simplification of a structure are realized. |
