GUERBET CARBONATES

2098497 9210462 PCTABS00013 Guerbet carbonates are disclosed having the formula (I), in which R1 stands for a branched alkyl residue with 12 to 44 carbon atoms and R2 stands for R1 or for a linear alkyl residue with 1 to 12 carbon atoms. To produce these carbonates, Guerbet alcohols are esterified in the presence of alkali or alkaline earth metal compounds with dialkyl carbonates, the esterification products are processed with filtering aids and then filtered. These products are useful as lubricants.
