<p>Polycondensation of bis (2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (I) with a purity of not less than 90 wt.% (esp. at least 95%), in the pres. of a condensation catalyst (II). (I) is pref. made from terephthalic acid and ethlene oxide in presence of a basic catalyst such as NaOH. The II are known materials such as Sb2O3, Sb2O5, GeO2, esters and salts of weak acids of Sb, esters of Ti, Sn cpds. such as stannous octoate, etc. Polymers produced from high purity (I) have lower processing temps. than standard polymers and are useful for the prodn. of fibres and (esp.) films.</p> |
