A process for manufacturing a work table for a cutting machine and like devices, in which the device comprises rails 1 along two opposite sides of the table, a portal 2 with trolley 3 and vertical slide 4. A surface 5, described by a point on the slide, with the slide in fixed position, by the portal and the trolley moving over the whole of the table, is determined by the manufacturing tolerances of the units, sagging in the portal, distortion in the rail system. Some form of machining device is mounted in locked fitting on the slide and the device can machine the entire table surface to form a surface 7, which throughout is parallel with the one previously described by virtue of the fact that the same conditions will apply to the position of the machining device as to the point according to that which has been previously described. The table can be constructed from a layer of concrete 8, which is levelled according to rails, and a layer of cast compound 9 of reinforced plastics material or the like, which is machined to form the surface 7. The method can also be used to produce channels 10 or holes 11 according to a certain pattern in the table surface. <IMAGE> |
